Internship Ratings
Not a lot of time to post recently – sorry about that. Ran across this site today from Tech Crunch called InternshipRatings.com.
Very interesting resource, check it out on TechCrunch or go to their website.
Back to the Future – The Benefits of Club Leadership Meetings OVer the Summer
Another year in the Babson MBA program and a new group of second years are at the helm of Babson’s graduate student clubs. As co-president of the Babson Energy and Environmental Club, I have had the opportunity to work with Jonah Eidus and the club’s complete executive board to prepare us for this year.
Our experience has been that preparation for a club in the Babson MBA should occur soon after the new board is elected. For the BEEC, we held an executive staff meeting for the new leadership within a week of election results this past spring. In that meeting we made it clear that the board would meet over the summer via teleconference in order to begin planning for the school year.
Our three summer meetings served a few purposes. For one, it gave the board an opportunity to speak with each other and catch up in a professional environment. Since internships and other activities drive Babson MBAs far and wide from Wellseley, this served an an important way to keep relationships and core networks fresh over the break. The summer meetings also provided an opportunity for planning some important early events.
The BEEC is hosting a panel for the alumni-fusion event, “Back to Babson” for the first time. Our vice president of alumni relations, Brian Lapseritis and events and vice president of membership, Eric Burns, worked to create an event titled, “Cleantech: Where Entrepreneurship Meets Environmentalism.” It is already an honor to be invited to participate in Back to Babson, there is no way that such an event could come together after school started.
So, two primary wins from summer meetings are that you have the opportunity to put on a major event early in the school year, and you keep relationships in your staff strong.
A final reason to get meet with your club leadership over the summer is that Babson MBA students have high expectations, yet are eager to get involved in clubs that can offer opportunity to get involved. Advanced planning over the summer has positioned us to immediatly begin committee development to serve the club over the complete academic year.
